Envelope #7

The mandarin is still alive, but his life is not a happy one. His wife has died and all the joy of his life is gone. Nothing brings him happiness anymore. He was so close to his wife that he wishes he were dead so he could be with her. He is completely depressed and sick of living. Do you blow out the candle?
If yes, go to Envelope #8.  If no, go to Envelope #9.

Food for thought...

At what point do 'morals' stop making sense?   Doesn't it seem arrogant to believe that we are capable of constructing a 'moral truth' that will be applicable in all situations regardless of the circumstances?
Let's examine the circumstances of this situation:
We are being asked to choose between (i) a communist criminal who is old and does not want to live or (ii) 200 years of peace and prosperity.  Lose one life or lose 200 years of peace.  Which is the greater sacrifice?
