Envelope #5

The mandarin still lives, but as an outcast. Some villagers have brought evidence that he had stolen village funds that were supposed to be used for badly needed food and medicine. Even though he is hated by the whole village, the mandarin is still happy to be alive. He looks forward to seeing the sun rise every morning. Do you blow out the candle and buy peace with his life?
If yes, go to Envelope #6. If no, got to Envelope #7.

Food for thought...

So where do you draw the line?  You have been offered the opportunity to trade one life for 200 years of peace and prosperity.  If you do not blow out the candle, the question must be asked, "Why are you protecting the life of a criminal at the expense of world peace?"

If your answer is "Because the Bible says it's wrong to kill", I would ask you to justify it.  It is not sufficient to claim 'the Bible' as your justification unless you are willing to claim that with everything in the Bible.  If you disagree with even one idea in the Bible, you cannot say, "Because the Bible says so!"  Feel free to use the Good News as a basis for solid, thoughtfull arguments... but think it through on your own if you want to truly grow and understand.
